How to Press DTF Transfers – Heat Press & Iron Instructions

How to Press Your DTF Transfers

Follow the steps for your equipment below.

Before you start

  • You'll need: a heat press (best results) or a household iron, plus a teflon sheet or parchment paper
  • Your design does not need to be mirrored
  • Each transfer can only be pressed once.

Heat press instructions

Set your temperature to match the fabric:

Fabric Temperature
100% polyester 240°F
Cotton / polyester blend 260°F
100% cotton and similar 280°F

Every heat press runs a little differently. You may need to adjust slightly.

  1. Pre-press the blank garment for 5 seconds where the design will go, to remove moisture and wrinkles.
  2. Place the transfer on the garment and cover it completely with a teflon sheet or parchment paper.
  3. Press with medium pressure for 10 seconds.
  4. Peel the film off immediately. If you prefer, you can wait for it to cool completely, then peel.
  5. Second press: put the teflon or parchment back over the design and press again for 5–6 seconds.

Household iron instructions

Set your iron to the highest heat with no steam.

  1. Pre-iron the blank garment where the design will go, to remove moisture and wrinkles.
  2. Place the transfer on the garment and cover it completely with a teflon sheet or parchment paper.
  3. Press down hard and hold for 15 seconds on each section of the design, working across until the whole design has been pressed.
  4. Wait for the transfer to cool completely, then peel off the film.
  5. Final press: put the teflon or parchment back over the design and give it one more firm press.

Washing & care

  1. Turn the garment inside out
  2. Machine wash cold
  3. Use a mild detergent — no bleach, no OxiClean, no whitening/brightening detergents, no fabric softener
  4. Tumble dry low or hang to dry
  5. Never iron directly over the design
